Well, don’t ask staff for fresh ideas, says “innovation expert” Stephen Shapiro in his book Best Practices are Stupid: 40 Ways to Out-Innovate the Competition.
Asking for ideas tends to create more time-consuming clutter than strategies to move the business forward, he says.
“Well-intentioned leaders, trying to boost innovation, are inadvertently destroying it,” says Shapiro, adding that innovation isn’t just about what’s new and shiny, it’s also about staying ahead of the competition.
