This weekend, one of the most powerful, innovative, and lucrative electronic dance music (EDM) acts returns to his home in the Bay Area. Lorin Ashton, aka Bassnectar, will be headlining on Sunday evening at the Bay Area Vibez Festival. Set in way West Oakland at at park overlooking The Bay, the Bay Bridge, and the San Francisco skyline, with no sound restriction, and during a Supermoon Lunar Eclipse, his performance, with its many build ups, drops, and sultry riffs of rolling mega bass is bound to both cataclysmic and cathartic.
Since I’m unable to contain my own excitement, I decided to riff a bit on the connection between Bassnectar’s music, the Perennial Philosoply–a philosophy that arose in Europe during the devestating holy wars in order to get back to the core of the good of what religion has to offer, and Self-expression, which I perceive to be not only the highest form creativity, but also the most profound and elevated expression of our humanity.
For those who are interested in exploring the origins of Bassnectar further, you can check out my article, The Lowdown on Bassenectar: How the Loma Prieta Earthquake Ushered in the Bay Area’s Most Indigenous Musica Genre.
And here’s a video showing the intention and work that go into producing an Bassnectar performance:
