Prince: A fully embodied creator
Even though all of have creativity as our core human trait, few of us activate it in all aspects of our lives. Some of us don’t activate it at all, preferring instead to cling to dogmas and outmoded belief systems about ourselves, about others, and about the world at large.
Others, work to develop creativity in certain areas of our lives, but not others, which make our lives seem full in those areas we bring forth creativity, say in our profession, but challenging in those areas we do not, such as our relationships or parenting.
And still other, for whatever reason, aspire to bring creativity in all aspects of their lives. In this latter category, I do believe that Prince was such a creator. As a performer, and as this clip demonstrates beautifully, he brought his ability to sing, to play guitar, to dance, to dress to the nines, and to coordinate his movements so beautifully with his bandmates, and to amaze the audience.
Not only that, a successful musical career presupposes his ability to work with innumerable others, including event organizers and producers, and to build a sustainable business. He utilized film and video to promote his music, and music to promote his film and video.
He was also deeply spiritual and was very generous with his earnings, often played concerts to benefit local communities and causes in need. Indeed is creativity was not something that set him apart from other, but allowed us all to feel more connected, included the sensual experience of being alive
In honor of the late, great Prince
In honor of one of the most amazing performers who ever lived, here’s a video of the late, great Prince performing “Let’s Go Crazy” in 1985. Truly remarkable!
